Obama's belief is that he lent the banks money. Only problem is can the banks get the value of the bad assets. Well the answer is no because know one knows the exact value of these toxic asset. But if he would have given the people the money then the government would've have been paid back the money faster by the means of stimulating the economy. Considering the consumers are 70-75 percent of what makes the economy move.

GW Bush's answer to the economy crash was to GIVE banks hundreds of billions of dollars. There were no conditions on the money, they could just divide it between the execs (which apparently some did). And there was no need to pay the money back, it was just a gift.

The TARP program was $700 billion and was begun under GW Bush. So far $350 billion of that has been released (under Bush), and there are questions as to where it went since Bush did not apply any conditions to the funds. No new TARP funds have been released to Wall Street under Obama.
I think the actual dollar amount was higher than that. What I DO know is that if that money was given to every tax paying, legal American over the age of 18, WE would have stimulated the economy!! It's OUR money anyway, so why wasn't it given to US?? Washington Jackasses!!
