No, you do not have to enlist in the Army, but you do have to register for Selective Service. This is just in case they start a draft, they have a list of people to draft in the service. And to start a draft they would have to go through all the active duty, reserves, and national guard. You have to sign up for selective services if your 18 and a male U.S. citizen. It basically registers you if there ever is a draft, so that your name is in the pool. You don't actually have to join the military and it doesn't allow or prevent you from going to college or getting a job. However, it is illegal to not sign up and if a person got caught it would result in jail time.

Its your right not to register, but yes, it ruins your ability to do anything like go to school or get a job. Its not worth it to resist it at the point of regestration.
