I recall quite a few years back visiting some historical house with my wife. There was an entrance fee. The young girl at the cash desk asked me if we were adults or senior citizens ?
That was the first time I had heard the term.
Now in my local pub I am called 'Old Git' But on really festive occasions I am called 'miserable old git'!
No it doesn't irritate me at all, whatever I am called, I am amused.
The two votes in an election thing has me puzzled, must be this senility thing I've got?
I enjoy going into my local bar and complaining about the price of beer, I usually ask ';How much? I'm only an old aged pensioner you know';!
The bar man happily tells me to pis* off!! and has been known to call me an old far*T! Not very nice is it? I have feelings.
Ah well such is life , but I don't care, I just spit my chewing baccy all over his floor, can't smoke in there now! And all the spitoons have gone, yes it's a hard life!
I remember when I was a lad................Do you find the expression Senior Citizen irritating? If true, should we perhaps get two votes in an Election?
Thanks for the points.

i would much rather hear the words , (the mature person) as thats just what we are , we use lifes roads as a learning curve , i no i have , i see things for what they are , , i mean as a younger person , i didnt care about governement issues , but i do very much so now , i see how they pulled the wool over my eyes , and told me to work for a good pension , i did, and worked hard , what a wast that was , all the taxes the pensioner has payed , , well!!! , we no where most of that has gone dont we , but we hold fast to our pride , they can not have that ,
I don't mind the term Senior Citizen. I do get irritated over the term young being used, like 'he's 78 years young'. I feel that I am earning being called 'old', and if I'm lucky enough to see my 90's or even 100, I will be that old, doesn't mean I have to act it though.
Why should you get two votes? What, one for being a senior and another for being a citizen? ^_^
no one hundred
I do not understand why senior citizens would happily embrace any senior discounts but they hate being called old.
Not really, it defines the age group respectfully, as opposed to some other names I have heard S.C. referred to.
Its better than Old Age Pensioner
It is. What's wrong with saying someone is old? The same as when someone is introduced as being 73 years young!
