I have heard that, in the days of slavery, the US slave owners would whip their slaves every day. I understand that this sort of whipping would draw blood and rip the flesh underneath. Isn't it true that, if a person was whipped like this everyday, that he would die after a couple of weeks? For what reason would a slave be whipped like this *every* day? Were *all* of them whipped like this? If the slaves weren't whipped every day, then how often were they whipped? Is it true that US citizens used to whip their slaves every day?
Slaves were only whipped if they did anything naughty eg running away, hitting a white person etc. If you owned a slave would you beat him so he couldn't work efficiently for no reason? Of course not. Slaves were valuable commodities and well looked after. Is it true that US citizens used to whip their slaves every day?
First few people could afford to own slaves, of the total population in the US. Second as a rule those who could afford slaves had a Manager or handler who controlled the slaves and he would do any whipping that needed to be done.
Slaves where treated poorly and fed poorly. However a dead slave was of no value to the owner. They as a rule where kept repressed and un-educated, to keep them in fear was more efective then having to whip.
However slaves did get whipped. Some did die from it and many die from lack of good food and health care.
I think that the internet is big enough and reliable enough for you to Google or yahoo search this and get a much more reliable account of the history of slavery in America than most will answer for you knowledgeably here.
Im afraid you ';heard'; wrong.
