Is it true if you are not a EU citizen you cannot work in Ireland?

Hello,

I am from the United States and I have had my heart set on moving to Ireland for quite some time now.

I was going to register on a wensite to get alerts for job oppenings in hotels (I work for the Sheraton now) but on the site it said if you are not a EU citizen don't bother to register because you will not be able to work in Ireland.

Is that true?

Any information anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Yes, it is more or less true. In addition to EU citizens, there are various work permits that citizens of Commonwealth countries can apply for, but obviously as a US citizen this doesn't apply to you.

If you're that eager to relocate there, you should look for a job in your home country with a multinational corporation, who may eventually present you with a chance to transfer abroad. I would have thought that Sheraton could be a great employer in that regard. I know a lot of people that work for Hilton Hotels and they get to move overseas as much or as little as they like, obviously depending on what jobs are open but the bigger the company the more jobs they have available. Is it true if you are not a EU citizen you cannot work in Ireland?
i dont see why not plenty of irish work over in the states, as long as you have the proper paperwork work permits visas ect you should be able to work here ok.
